FAQ
How long is each session?
The initial session is 60 minutes. Follow up sessions are generally 50 minutes in duration.
How much does each session cost?
Sessions are currently charged at $240 per session. This is well below the APS National Schedule of Recommended Fees.
Are Medicare rebates available?
Yes. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you are eligible for a rebate of $141.85 (up to 10 sessions per calendar year). This means you will be $98.15 out of pocket for each session.
Are health fund rebates available?
As this depends on your individual cover you will need to check with your health fund. If you are claiming Medicare rebates you cannot also claim from your health fund for the same session/s.
Do I need a GP referral to access treatment?
A GP referral is not necessary, however you will not be eligible for any Medicare rebates. You may still be eligible for private health insurance rebate depending on your cover.
What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?
Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance otherwise a cancellation fee of $100 will apply.
What does treatment consist of?
A treatment plan will be discussed at the end of the initial session. I usually take a very practical, skills-based approach so the treatment plan will usually be focused on developing skills and strategies that help you move towards your goals. But if you prefer a more relaxed approach, or just want to have a sounding board, that is OK too!
How many sessions will I need?
This is one question that I cannot answer here! It depends on what your presenting concerns are, how long you have been experiencing these issues and your level of resources in implementing the strategies outside of sessions. This will of course be discussed at the end of your first session.
